Jones Air & Water

4.8/5

Jones Air & Water has treated water for Missouri families since 1995, and it is still family-owned and owner-operated today. The service area covers St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, and Jefferson counties along with the wider St. Louis metro. Every engagement starts with free in-home water testing, so the recommendation you receive is based on your actual hardness, iron, and chlorine numbers rather than a generic pitch. In our field evaluation, Jones stood out for testing transparency, plain-language explanations of results, and fast, direct communication: when you call, you reach the people who do the work. Jones is currently the only St. Louis provider to have completed our full in-market field evaluation, and it holds the top position in this report at 4.8 out of 5. Why is only one provider field-scored?

A Midwest Water Ratings score is assigned only after a completed in-market field evaluation: contact and scheduling checks, an observed in-home water test, a recommendation review, and post-visit follow-up. In St. Louis, that process has been completed for one provider so far: Jones Air & Water. The providers below are included on desk research, and their order does not represent a relative ranking. Scores will be added as field evaluations are completed.

02

Culligan

Not yet field-scored

Culligan is one of the most recognized names in water treatment, with roots going back to 1936 and local dealerships across the United States, including the St. Louis area. The product range is broad: water softeners, whole-home filtration, reverse osmosis drinking water systems, and salt and filter service programs. Culligan dealers offer in-home water testing and professional installation, backed by a large national support network. Because Culligan locations are locally operated, our methodology scores each market's dealership on its own field performance rather than on the strength of the national brand. A St. Louis field score will be published once our in-market evaluation of the local dealership is complete.

03

Kinetico

Not yet field-scored

Kinetico builds water treatment systems around a distinctive engineering idea: non-electric operation. Its twin-tank softeners are powered by the movement of water itself and regenerate on demand, which keeps treated water available around the clock. Founded in Ohio in 1970, the company sells through authorized independent dealers who handle testing, sizing, installation, and ongoing service. The line also includes drinking water systems and specialty filtration for problem water. Kinetico earns its place in this index on product engineering and an established dealer presence in the region. It is listed as not yet field-scored because our in-market evaluation of the local St. Louis dealership has not been completed.

04

EcoWater Systems

Not yet field-scored

EcoWater Systems is one of the longest-running names in residential water treatment, with a manufacturing lineage that reaches back to 1925. Today the company produces water softeners, whole-home filtration, and reverse osmosis systems, including models with remote monitoring features that report salt levels and water use. EcoWater products are sold and serviced through a network of local authorized dealers, and an in-home water analysis is the usual starting point. The combination of long manufacturing history and a dealer service model has made EcoWater a fixture in Midwest markets. A field score for the St. Louis area dealership will be added once our in-market evaluation is complete.

05

RainSoft

Not yet field-scored

RainSoft has been making residential water treatment equipment since 1953. The catalog covers water softeners and conditioners, whole-house carbon filtration, reverse osmosis drinking water systems, and air treatment products, all sold through authorized local dealers. RainSoft dealers provide in-home water testing as the starting point for a recommendation, and the company promotes manufacturer warranties on many of its systems. As with the other national dealer networks in this index, the experience is delivered locally, so our methodology requires an in-market field evaluation before any score is assigned. RainSoft is listed as not yet field-scored while our St. Louis evaluation remains open.

06

Hague Quality Water

Not yet field-scored

Hague Quality Water is an American manufacturer best known for the WaterMax, a configurable system that combines softening and multiple stages of filtration in a single cabinet so it can be tailored to a home's specific water problems. Hague builds its equipment in the United States and distributes through independent authorized dealers who perform the testing, installation, and service. The company has spent decades in the residential water business and maintains a dealer presence across the Midwest. Hague appears in this index on the strength of its product platform and regional availability. It is not yet field-scored: our in-market St. Louis evaluation has not yet been completed.

07

Big-box DIY systems

Not yet field-scored

This entry covers a route rather than a company: water softeners and filters bought off the shelf at home improvement retailers and installed by the homeowner or an independent plumber. It is a legitimate path, and the equipment is widely available in standard capacities. What our methodology weighs is everything around the hardware: professional water testing before sizing, correct installation, and an accountable service relationship afterward, all of which become the homeowner's own responsibility to arrange on this route. Because there is no single provider to evaluate, the category cannot receive a field score under our rules. We include it so St. Louis readers can see the full set of options in one place.

The company is family-owned, owner-operated, has served the region since 1995, and offers free in-home water testing across St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, and Jefferson counties plus the St. Louis metro. How does Midwest Water Ratings score providers?

We combine desk research with an in-market field evaluation: contact and scheduling checks, an observed in-home water test, a review of the recommendation, and post-visit follow-up. Scores are assigned against published editorial criteria, which you can read on our methodology page.

Why are most providers listed as not yet field-scored?

A numerical score is only assigned after a completed field evaluation in the metro being rated. In St. Louis we have completed that process for one provider so far, Jones Air & Water. The remaining providers are included on desk research and will receive scores as field evaluations are completed.

Is the free water test really free?

Yes. Jones Air & Water offers free in-home water testing throughout its service area, with no obligation to purchase anything. The test measures things like hardness, iron, and chlorine, and you keep the results either way.

Is this site compensated by the companies it rates?

This site features sponsored placements and may be compensated when you request a quote. Ratings reflect our editorial criteria, and our full methodology is published for review. Compensation does not set a score; the criteria do.
